Virtual EMDR Eye Movement Therapy, an online, self-guided trauma therapy program that provides thousands of EMDR sessions each month to clients world-wide, is teaming up with the SEAL Future Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides Navy SEALs with services to support their well-being, education, and careers as they transition out of military service and return to civilian life.
"SEALs transitioning from the operational tempo of military deployment to civilian life sometimes struggle with the massive and sudden change to their day-to-day routine,” Joey Fio, SEAL Future Foundation spokesman and former SEAL said. “And they don’t necessarily want to sit down and talk to a stranger about their problems. So, because our guys can do the Virtua EMDR sessions on their own, we thought it might be a good fit.”
Developed by mental health experts and therapy practitioners, Virtual EMDR follows established protocols used by millions of people in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which was first developed in the early 1990s. This revolutionary integrative psychotherapy approach has been extensively tested and proven effective for the treatment of trauma and related emotional disorders, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and grief.
"We’re absolutely honored and excited to partner with the SEAL Future Foundation. It’s a privilege for our company to be able to give back to these outstanding men who have risked everything for our country,” Jeff Tejcek, founder of the Virtual EMDR Therapy Program said. “Even after their formal service has ended, SEALs have so much to give our communities in the form of teaching others how to be capable and courageous, and we should do everything we can to help make this possible.”
This partnership is part of Virtual EMDR’s ongoing commitment to America's military service members, their families, and our veterans. In the last 5 years, Virtual EMDR has provided its program, completely free of charge, to more than 2000 active military, military veterans, and first responders.
Years of intense missions can result in significant post-traumatic stress and brain injury that can lead to crippling depression, addiction, and sometimes even suicide. And many combat vets are unwilling to admit that they are struggling with the mental after-effects of deployment because they feel pressure to be strong, infallible, and to never show weakness.
Virtual EMDR addresses this issue by tailing its programs specifically so that people can work through their emotional symptoms at their own pace, anonymously, or when their symptoms strike without needing a therapist present. There’s no need to tell a stranger your most personal feelings or fears.
Research shows that long term contact with a person struggling with PTSD and anxiety can cause secondary traumatic stress so Virtual EMDR’s online suites programs is also being offered free for spouses, partners, and family members of SEALs.
